This 109-ft passenger ferry can carry up to 599 riders between New Jersey and New York City. With a top speed of 23 knots, and a cruising speed of 20 knots, the aluminumhullcatamaranispoweredbytwoCumminsQSK38 engines, each producing 1,000-bhps at 1,800 rpm. Propulsion is aided by a pair of ZF 5-bladed nibral wheels through ZF marine gear with 2.952:1 ratios. Today, theyre making the half-mile crossing on partially protected inland waters in their new ferry, Southern Cross. The new ferry is 101-feet long and comfortably carries 18 autos and a maximum deck load of 260,000 pounds. Main propulsion is provided by two Caterpillar Series C-18 Tier III rated at 470 hp @ 1,800 rpm.
